Toronto’s “Crane Girl”gets absolute discharge

A woman who had to be rescued from a Toronto crane last year has been given an absolute discharge, after pleading guilty to mischief.

Marisa Lazo was stranded for hours after climbing a crane at a construction site near Church and Wellesley in April 2017.

She was eventually rescued by a firefighter who climbed up and rappelled down with her.

The 23-year-old was charged with six counts of mischief by interfering with property.

She pleaded guilty to two mischief counts and has been given six months to pay a victim surcharge.

According to the Ministry of the Attorney General, the remaining charges in the case were withdrawn.

The morning rescue cost the construction company around $65,000. There was also the cost of the emergency services.
