Toronto police search for Hamilton teen accused of kidnapping after setting up fake date

Toronto police are looking for a Hamilton teen accused of luring a potential date to be beaten and robbed.

In the early hours of July 26, 2025, police were called for a robbery investigation at St. Clair Avenue West and Christie Street in Toronto.

Detectives said the suspect allegedly lured the adult victim to the area after setting up a fake date. Once her date arrived, the victim was allegedly ambushed by a group of men. Police said the victim was forced into a vehicle and driven around for several hours while demands were made for money.

Officers said the victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was found by police within a few hours.

A suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Ashley Crenshaw of Hamilton. She faces the following charges:

  • Kidnapping;
  • Kidnapping for Ransom or Service;
  • Two counts of Forcible Confinement;
  • Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence.
