The Toronto Police Service has recovered the largest amount of illicit drugs in the force’s history, seizing an estimated street value of almost $60 million.

Deputy Chief Pauline Gray told the public in a news conference on Thursday that members of the Drug Squad have seized $58 million in illegal substances totaling 671 kilograms.

Police delivered the news conference from behind a large pile of plastic bags filled with the drugs. There were 520 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 151 kilograms of cocaine.

Officers conducted a four week long investigation into two Toronto stash houses before making this seizure. Search warrants were obtained for two residences and three vehicles and were carried out on Oct. 5.
