Toronto Pearson International Airport has put out a warning for passengers and the news media that they have seen a spike in AI-generated articles about airport operations.

The airport says that bots and other tools have been used to source and share inaccurate information on things including flight delays and cancellations.

They report seeing up to 100 AI-generated articles a day with fake numbers, no attempted verification, and “misleading context that implies system-wide cascades.”

Pearson cautions that passengers should rely on their airlines, which make the decisions about routes and cancellations, for accurate real-time communication about delays and cancellations direct to passengers and stay away from third party sites.

Airport staff listed websites that they say allege publish unverified or misleading context which included:

  • TheTraveler.org;
  • Toronto Digest;
  • Travel and Tour World;
  • NomadLawyer and;
  • Travel Tourister.
