Tobiasz recovering from ordeal

The Oakville woman trapped in her car for two hours under a toppled tractor trailer yesterday is continuing her recovery at home tonight.

Her husband says Edyta Tobiasz, 38, is sore and bruised – but didn’t even break a bone – after her Mazda was forced into a ditch off the 403, and was then crushed by a 40-thousand pound semi — carrying plastics that lost control on the Dundas Street off-ramp.

Moments after the crash – with only one hand free – Tobiasz managed to call her husband Roland, who arrived on scene about the same time as emergency crews. He waited as crews carefully lifted the truck, and then used the jaws of life to get her out.

“They brought her out of the drivers side, and a few minutes later, it felt like eternity, I was led to see her. She smiled and said, ‘I’m OK.’ We kissed and held hands.”

Her two teenage boys were watching the rescue unfold live on TV, but just hours after it happened they were able to hug their mother, and take her home from hospital.
