Tim Hortons Field transforms for the ultimate fan experience

There are just five days until the Grey Cup game at Tim Hortons Field on Sunday, and there are lots of preparations happening all over the city.

When you look at the outside the stadium looks like it always does. But there have been a few special additions, specifically for this year’s Grey Cup.

Tim Hortons Field is still decked out in black and yellow, but it’s clear the Grey Cup has taken over.

“Looking forward to hosting all the fans here, we’re looking at a large stadium of 30,000. So it’s about 6,000 more seats than you would normally see for a Ti-Cats game,” said General Manager, Gerry Fonzo.

The extra seats have been added to either side of the stadium, including tented suites.

“Comfortable for 20 people indoors, heated, lit up, great view from the end zone as well,” said Fonzo.

And for those who want to hangout, eat, and drink during the game, there are bars located throughout the stadium including the Coors Banquet Bar, and a Bench Brewing Company.

And of course, the food available on game day, will be special.

“We need to keep our guests happy and fed because they’re going to be here experiencing a great game,” said Executive Chef, Jonathan Philippe.

“We’ve created several different new concepts with paninis which we haven’t done here at Tim Hortons Field. Also we’ve done some crazy concepts with duck wings and chicken wings, you know stuff we don’t typically sell here.”

The executive chef says he expects the Hammer Dog, covered in hickory sticks, cheddar and bacon, to be the most popular item.

“We’re prepped for 6,000, I can comfortably say we’re going to comfortably executive four to 5,000 for sure,” said Philippe.

And to wash the food down, there will be a bacon-themed Caesar made special for the game, which includes bacon infused vodka and a strip of candied bacon.

Not to mention, the stadium is more than prepared for beer drinkers.

It has over 100,000 cans of beer and over 40,000 cans of seltzers ready for the game. Totaling to over 150,000 beverages.

The 110th Grey Cup game is this Sunday.

Until then, there are multiple festivities happening throughout the city, which CHCH News we will be covering all week.
