Ticats Mini Camp

Tuesday was the first day of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats mini camp. 69 players were invited to camp, including one player who has won an Olympic medal.

Akeem Haynes won an Olympic bronze medal as the lead runner in the 4 x 100 Canadian men’s relay team in Rio. But he admits playing football is vastly different.

“Huge change, sprinting I’m only going in a straight line, football I need to do that and catch and go laterally and stuff. Big transition that I’m trying to pick up each day.”

The 26 year old played high-school football in Calgary. He turned heads right away with his speed but even more with his ability.

“A heck of an athlete and can catch the ball too. We found out right away that he wasn’t just a typical track guy that just runs fast and doesn’t have football in him, he can play.” Jeremiah Masoli, QB.

Haynes will have two more days to run away from the competition.
