Three arrested, another wanted in Halton copper wire theft investigation

Three people have been arrested and another person is wanted in connection with dozens of alleged copper wire thefts throughout Milton and Halton Hills over the past year.

Halton police say there were more than 40 copper wire thefts in 2025, during which suspects allegedly cut down cable lines, salvaged the copper and then sold it.

Early last month, officers launched an investigation into this copper wire theft network and identified multiple suspects believed to be involved.

Two people were arrested around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 30 when investigators responded to a report of a copper wire theft near Canyon Road and Campbell Avenue in Milton.

Brendan Boyd, 36, of Guelph, Ont., is now facing nine theft and drug-related charges. Forty-three-year-old Benjamin Moffatt of Guelph, Ont., has been charged with theft under $5,000.

The following day, police executed search warrants on two vehicles and two homes in Guelph and Erin, Ont., where they seized copper wire, tools and electronic devices. A third suspect was also arrested.

Dawna Mitchell, 36, of Erin, Ont., is now facing five charges.

All were held in custody pending their bail hearings in Milton.

Investigators are continuing to search for a fourth suspect who has been identified as Christopher Lennon, 29, of Halton Hills. He is wanted for possession of property obtained by crime – under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime – trafficking.
