Thousands of people took to the streets overnight to protest the election of Donald Trump

Thousands of people took to the streets in cities across the United States last night, protesting the election of Donald Trump.

The protests took place from the east coast, all the way west to Portland, Oregon and down to California in Oakland and Los Angeles. The biggest protests though, took place in Chicago and New York City.

In Manhattan last night protesters could be heard chantin “hey, hey ho, ho! Donald trump has got to go!” and carrying signs with messages calling Trump a fascist and calling for an end to white supremacy.
Perhaps the biggest protest, though, took place outside of the Trump Tower, where cellphone video captured a small group of protesters setting fire to an american flag…

On the west coast of the country in Los Angeles protesters blocked major highways, putting pylons in the roadway, backing up traffic and causing gridlock. Several protesters clashed with police in riot gear and the LAPD says 13 arrests were made overnight.

In Chicago, a protest that began with hundreds grew to about 10 000 people who congregated around downtown Chicago’s Trump Tower trying to gain access to the hotel.

In Seattle a massive amount of protesters took over the streets to listen to speakers, before marching through the downtown.

And to the south in New Orleans protesters cheered as they set fire to an effigy of the President-elect using a blow-torch. They cheered and clapped as the effigy of Donald Trump was burned; many taking video on their cellphones and snapping photos.

Aa 11 o’clock this morning Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Barack Obama, where he is set to receive an update on transition plans from the current President

During a speech yesterday, President Obama made reference to the fact that he and Trump have significant differences, but pledged the full cooperation of his government to ensure Trump’s transition to power is a smooth one.
