Facebook and its Instagram and WhatsApp are down for thousands of users around the world.

The outage began around 11:45 a.m. EDT on Monday.

While the company is aware that many people are having trouble accessing the apps, they did not say what could be causing the outage.

According to downdetector.ca, Facebook reported 20,000 outages as of noon Monday, Instagram had over 15,000 reports and WhatsApp reported more than 7,000 issues.

Facebook said in a tweet that they are working on restoring access.
