Thorold man wanted in rental fraud investigation

Niagara police have issued an arrest warrant for a 39-year-old man in connection with a rental fraud investigation.
Back in November, police began looking into several allegations of an individual attempting to fraudulently rent out a residential property in Thorold.
In many of the reported incidents, a person using the fake name “Chris Jenkins” would seek people out online who were looking for an apartment to rent.
He would show the victim the residence, have them sign a fraudulent lease agreement and then accept a down payment.
“In the days leading up to the agreed upon move in date, the suspect would then advise the victims that they can no longer move in and he cannot refund their money,” said police in a news release.
Police have issued an arrest warrant for Mark Christopher Cipparone, of Thorold, for fraud over $5,000 and two counts of fraud under $5,000.
He is described as being six-foot-one, with brown hair, brown facial hair, hazel eyes and wears glasses. Cipparone has several tattoos including tribal designs on his right arm and right calf.
Detectives have reason to believe there may be more victims.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Det. Const. David Bozza at 905-688-4111, ext. 1009352.
