The Longest Ride is a romance film, based on a Nicholas Sparks’ book of the same name, directed by George Tillman, Jr. (Barbershop). It is the 11th Sparks adaptation to hit the big screen, and it continues the trend of casting young, up-and-coming talents in the main roles – Britt Robertson and Scott Eastwood in this case. Jack Huston, Oona Chaplin, Alan Alda, Melissa Benoist, and Lolita Davidovich co-star.

Based on the bestselling novel by master storyteller Nicholas Sparks, THE LONGEST RIDE centers on the star-crossed love affair between Luke, a former champion bull rider looking to make a comeback, and Sophia, a college student who is about to embark upon her dream job in New York City’s art world. As conflicting paths and ideals test their relationship, Sophia and Luke make an unexpected connection with Ira, whose memories of his own decades-long romance with his beloved wife deeply inspire the young couple. Spanning generations and two intertwining love stories, THE LONGEST RIDE explores the challenges and infinite rewards of enduring love.

Sparks is basically printing money every time he publishes a new book. ‘The Longest Ride’ hit shelves in September 2013, meaning it only takes 19 months to turn a movie around. And because their budgets are so modest they always turn a tidy profit. Averaging around $30-million each to make, the Sparks “film franchise” has averaged close to $58-million at the box office.

The Longest Ride is rated PG.
