It’s a disturbing statistic, suicide is the second leading cause of death for Canadians between the ages of 15 and 34. Half of young people suffering with depression don’t talk about it.

30 000 college and university students were surveyed a few years ago, 90% said they were were overwhelmed by the work load, they were stressed over grades, money and relationships. Nearly 10% of those surveyed said they contemplated suicide, more than 400 of those students say they actually attempted suicide.

Today Niagara College unveiled “The Friendship Bench” a yellow symbol to encourage students to become more aware of mental illness and the resources available to those suffering from it
