The city of Brantford sends out a warning to residents after a rubber company went up in flames

It was a massive scene outside the plant, at least 8 fire trucks surrounding the blaze attempting to extinguish the growing fire. The black smoke billowing high above nearby businesses and homes in the area.

Many were comparing the plume to the Hagersville tire fire of 1990. That was one of Ontario’s biggest environmental disasters. It eventually spread to 14,000,000 tires stored on the grounds of a recycling facility outside of Hagersville.

Ministry of the Environment has conducted air quality monitoring in the area and did find contaminants in the plume of smoke but has said it’s “Well below emergency screening values”.
