That Awkward Moment

That Awkward Moment is a bromance film and offers a fresh take on the classic rom-com, starring three men in a typically female dominated genre. Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan, and Miles Teller star as the three best friends. When Jordan’s character is dumped by his longtime girlfriend, his two friends swear to remain single with him. It turns out to be an empty gesture of solidarity as the two unexpectedly find themselves in relationships. As the three friends deal with their new situations, they realize that relationships between best friends and girlfriends aren’t as different as they had thought.

That Awkward Moment comes from first time writer and director Tom Gormican. His script was listed on the 2010 edition of the Black List, an annual rundown of the most popular screenplays yet to be produced. Zac Efron headlines the trio of stars, but both Jordan and Teller have seen their stock rise recently. Jordan got his break in the television series Friday Night Lights and followed it up with roles in Red Tails and Chronicle before earning critical praise in last year’s Fruitvale Station. Teller appeared in the remake of Footloose and starred in the comedy 21 and Over, but it was his role in The Spectacular Now that brought him the most attention, earning him the Dramatic Special Jury Award for Acting at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. He also stars in the film Whiplash which opened this year’s Sundance Festival and went on to win top honours in the dramatic category.
