A pair of Niagara teens are being hailed as heroes after rescuing a dog from a burning house and putting the fire out.

Fire-fighters were called to Albany street in Fort Erie Monday afternoon but by the time they arrived the fire was already out, thanks to 18-year-old Alex Brigantino and his girlfriend 16-year-old Christina Pascuzzi. The two were leaving their friends house when they noticed the house next door on fire. The home owners were not inside at the time but their dog Scooter was trapped inside.

“I called 911 and I noticed there was a dog in the house, so I went to the front door and kicked down the door, got the dog out.”

Brigantino grabbed a garden hose from the burning house and put out the fire. Fort Erie fire says the fire was accidental and appears to have started from a cigarette butt that was thrown in the backyard.
