It was day two in the trial of Sukhvinder Singh Rai.

A small bottle, with a brown liquid inside was found inside a cooler, located in the truck that crashed into the Skyway Bridge back on July 31st 2014.

OPP Constable Steven Anderson with the Collision Reconstruction Unit testified today that he found the bottle along with several others when searching the truck.

He also found a log, that has the driver listed as Sukhvinder Singh Rai of Branmpton.

Rai is facing 4 charges in relation to the crash, two of which are impaired driving, and impaired driving with a blood alcohol content over 80.

Court also saw pictures taken from inside the crash scene as we heard from three men who were working atop the bridge at the moment of the crash. Trevor Sallenger, Geoffery Vanzandwijk, and Paul Chubb were all part of a crew working to restore and re-paint the bridge.

Vanzandwijk was standing on top when he noticed a truck with it’s bin raised moving up the bridge. He said that, he was not worried because they had an early detection system setup to alert workers of approaching vehicles that were too tall, there was no alert, and the truck crashed.

Paul chubb who was working in the middle of the scaffolding says he saw “a cloud of dust and dubris” coming from the crash site.

The men all saw the driver exit the vehicle, Trevor Sallengers said that the driver appeared to be “in shock.” they say that the driver spoke little to no english, but was trying to get back in the truck to retrieve his cell phone.

All three of the men said that they did not smell anything on the driver.

By the time Constable Anderson arrived, less than 20 minutes after the crash, Sukhvinder Singh Rai was getting medical attention, but paramedics said that he refused to go to the hospital.

The trial is expected to last 8 more days.
