Stoney Creek man struck and killed while crossing highway

Ontario Provincial Police say a Stoney Creek man has died after being struck by a vehicle while trying to cross a highway on foot.

Police say the driver exited his vehicle on the side of Wellington Road 18, near Lake Belwood around 6 p.m. Thursday.

The 78-year-old man attempted to cross the highway and was struck by a passing motorist.

The man’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of his next of kin.

OPP says the cause of the collision is currently being investigated by Technical Collision Investigators and the roadway will remain closed until further notice.
