Stolen dog returned, man arrested
Video added A happy ending to a frightening encounter for 14-year-old Idah Clementino.
She was approached by a man while walking her 3-year-old Shih Tzu poodle on Plains Road Monday evening. Idah says the man wanted to pet her dog, but she decided to walk faster. He didn’t give up, claimed the dog was his, took it and drove off.
Halton police found ”Jackson” Tuesday afternoon and arrested a 32-year-old man.
They say a microchip, information from the Burlington Animal Shelter plus the widespread public attention led to the arrest, recovery and reunion. Police think all pet owners should have their animals implanted with an identification micro-chip.
Luc Bernard of Burlington is to appear in court today.
