StatCan reports Canada added 75K jobs in July

Statistics Canada reports that the unemployment rate fell to its lowest level in two years to 6.4 per cent as the country added 75,000 jobs in July.

On Friday, StatCan released its Labour Force Survey, which stated that the unemployment rate fell for the third straight month, down half a percentage point since April.

In July, most of the job gains were split between full-time and part-time work.

The agency says that wholesale and retail trade alone added 21,000 new jobs although the sector is down 50,000 jobs from a year ago.

In comparison to other provinces, Ontario added the most jobs in July, mainly in the professional, scientific and technical services sector.

According to a Reuters poll, economists predicted Canada would add 15,000 jobs in July.

StatCan reports that since April the country is up 181,000 jobs and is up 196,000 from last year.
