A nation-wide campaign called All Together, Canada encouraged people to sing O’Canada at the exact same time, from British Columbia to Newfoundland.
A group of patriotic seniors in St. Catharines jumped at the chance to join the rest of the country in celebrating Canada Day.
“It just seemed like such a good idea and it really boggles my mind that we could all be singing at the same time,” said Carolynne Canham, who organized All Together, Canada. “I think that’s just incredible.”
“I am so excited about the whole concept of Canadians coast to coast to coast, all singing at exactly the same time,” said Cheryl Bristow who took part in the national event.
“My favourite part about Canada, I hate to say this, but we’re not part of the U.S. That’s one of the good things, but also the way we have historically treated, although we’ve made mistakes and we’ve made some big ones, I think the way we’ve handled people coming in and the people here is gentler.”
“Oh, these days it means everything. You know, I think we’re all feeling a wave of patriotism and a need to express it, and a need to show that we’re a strong, united nation,” said Canham.
