The City of St. Catharines is accepting applications from volunteer groups interested in hosting outdoor ice skating this winter.
This year marks the eighth season of the city’s Community Outdoor Ice Rinks program.
The city says it provides volunteer community groups with the chance to build, operate and maintain ice rinks in city-owned parks.
It says no official non-profit status is required for volunteer groups but the rink must be free and open to everyone.
“We’re thrilled to back these volunteer crews with up to $1,000 to build spaces where residents can lace up their skates, hang out and stay active right in their own neighbourhoods,” says Kaylea Cassano, supervisor of community initiatives and partnerships.

The city says volunteer groups can apply to build and maintain one outdoor ice rink per ward in eligible city parks.
It says volunteers are responsible to supply, operate and store all necessary equipment and materials.
Applications are due Nov. 6 at 4:30 pm and successful applicants will be notified.
The outdoor rink season will run from Dec.1 to March 31.
