St. Catharines man charged after allegedly driving 225 km/h on QEW

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say they stopped a 36-year-old for driving 225 km/h on the Fort Erie bound QEW in a 100 km/h zone. 

On Saturday at 1:26 a.m., the OPP was conducting proactive stationary speed enforcement on the QEW near Glendale Avenue in the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Officers say the vehicle was observed to be travelling at a very high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped and the lone occupant then failed a roadside screening device.

Timothy Randall of St. Catharines has been charged with several driving-related offences including operation while impaired (blood alcohol concentration of over 80), speeding 50 or more km/h over the posted limit and driving a motor vehicle without a license or permit.

The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle has been impounded for 14 days.

The suspect has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in St Catharines on Dec. 7.
