St. Catharines driver facing multiple charges after fleeing police
A St. Catharines man is facing multiple charges after fleeing on foot when police determined license plates on a pickup truck were not authorized for that vehicle.
Niagara police said a uniformed officer observed the pickup Monday afternoon in the area of Queenston and Ida streets in St. Catharines and stopped the truck. The driver reportedly fled on foot then returned a short time later.
The driver, 40-year-old Joshua Stephens of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with multiple criminal, driving and insurance charges which include:
- Flight From Police;
- Fail to Comply with Release Order;
- Use Plate Not Authorized;
- Driving While Under Suspension;
- Driver Fail to Surrender Licence;
- Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle;
- Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit;
- Fail to Apply for Permit on Becoming Owner;
- Obstruct Plate;
- Drive Motor Vehicle No Licence;
- Fail to Surrender Insurance Card;
- Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on Highway – No Insurance.
The truck was seized for seven days. Stephens remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing Tuesday.
