St. Catharines cyclist attacked by dogs

A Rottweiler was shot by Niagara police after it and another dog attacked a 22-year-old woman while cycling.

Investigators say the dogs knocked her off of her bike and bit her. She was left with a serious wound on her ankle that required stitches, but she is expected to make a full recovery.

A passerby saw the attack and scared off the dogs before calling police and paramedics.

When police arrived they located one of the dogs. The Rottweiler charged an officer who then shot the dog to prevent injury to himself and anyone else.

Police searched nearby yards and found the second dog, a Bull Mastiff. That dog was captured and taken into custody by the humane society.
