A special weather statement is in effect for the Golden Horseshoe with significant rainfall and strong winds expected Tuesday evening.

Environment Canada says a Colorado Low pressure system is expected to intensify into an early spring storm.

Hamilton is expecting 15 to 30 millimetres of rain overnight and into Wednesday morning with a risk of thunderstorms.

The weather system will bring a cold front with possible wind gusts hurling up to 80 to 90 km/h on Wednesday.

The Niagara Region can expect strong wind gusts as high as 100 km/h to develop, especially near Lake Erie early Wednesday. The winds will begin to diminish later into the evening.

Environment Canada is warning there is a possibility of damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows as well as the possibility of power outages due to the strong winds.
