An update on the Smithville Greenhouse owner whose business was destroyed when Niagara Peninsula Energy shut off his power in the middle of winter over an unpaid bill. Rex Ge is starting over now, thanks to an outpouring of support from the community. All the plants were frozen, the heating system destroyed, one hundred fifty thousand dollars in damage – days after Niagara Peninsula Energy shut off his power over a 364 dollar unpaid bill.

Today his greenhouse is blanketed in colour, with thousands of plants and lawn sculptures. Smithville Christian High School students helped him with plantings. Other people with landscaping, they held fundraisers and a St. Catharines greenhouse owner donated plants.

“People knocked on my door, I heard the news from CHCH one lady said and donated 150 dollars, one gentleman gave 50 dollar” said Rex

More customers were knocking at his door. “Lots of people heard the news. They come on purpose to buy flowers, but I know they just wanted to stay hello and support me.”

Rex has been overwhelmed by help offered by ordinary people.
