SIU investigating after man tasered in St. Catharines

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating after a man was sent to hospital following an interaction with Niagara police on November 27.

Police were called to a St. Catharines variety store at the corner of Arthur St. and Northglen Ave. around 5:30 p.m and shortly after they arrived a taser was discharged.

An 18-year-old man was taken to hospital and is in serious condition.

A 77-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman were also transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Four investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to investigate the incident.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
