A second rainbow crosswalk is coming to Norfolk County on Friday all thanks to the money raised through “Ryder’s Rainbow”.

This new crosswalk will be installed in Port Dover at the intersection of Main Street and Chapman Street.

It is the second decorative crosswalk in the county after the first was brought to Simcoe in June.

“The reaction to the first rainbow crosswalk in Simcoe was incredibly positive, and it’s so exciting that we’re able to do something in Ryder’s hometown of Port Dover,” said Norfolk County Mayor Amy Martin, “These projects are an indication that Norfolk County is a community that welcomes everyone.”

The first rainbow crosswalk was initially proposed by then 8-year-old Port Dover resident Ryder Mandryk to the Norfolk County council in July 2021 to show support for the LGBTQ2A+ community after seeing one from Paris, Ont., in the newspaper.

Community members would rally together to raise $30,000 for “Ryder’s Rainbow”, doubling the funds needed to bring the project to life and enabling the County to install the two crosswalks.
