Second-degree murder charge laid in Shannon MacDougall homicide

Brantford police have made an arrest in a homicide investigation from 2020.

Police say Shannon MacDougall, 37, was found dead in her home on Mintern Ave. on Mar. 11, 2020 when officers were called to do a wellness check. They began a suspicious death investigation.

At the end of November, police announced her death was being investigated as a homicide.

About a year after MacDougall was found, a reward was offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for her death.

On Tuesday, Brantford police announced an arrest in the case.

Christine Birt, 28, of Brantford, has been charged with second-degree murder.
