Monday will be the second anniversary of a Hamilton house fire that took the lives of a mother and two children.
The family’s grandmother says she grieves every day, while devoting her time to a growing backyard memorial.
Yvonne Leblanc says she’ll never get over the loss of her two grandchildren and their mother.
On August 6th 2016, a fire ripped through the house she was renting at 70 Niagara Street in Hamilton’s east end.
Her son’s partner, Victoria Forrest was 26 when she died in the fire along with her children nine year old Robert Sheaves and 18-month-old Abagail Leblanc.
Too distraught to visit the house today, Yvonne says when she does, she dreams they’ll walk out.
It’s why she pours her energy into this growing memorial in her backyard.
Stuffed animals, flowers and other ornaments are reminders of the lives she lost that day.
Many she bought but others were left by the hamilton community.
Hamilton Fire Chief David Cunliffe says 11 people died in 2016, the most deadly in 30 years.
On Tuesday, a demolition team will begin taking down the Niagara Street house.
