Search resumes for missing St. Catharines man

Niagara police are searching for a man after he fell into the Niagara river Monday night.
Police say they responded to a call in the area of the Niagara Glen and the Niagara River Parkway in the city of Niagara Falls at approximately 7:15 pm after a report of a man in distress.
They say four men were on a hike when they stopped to take photos on a rock.
One of the men slipped off the rock into a fast flowing area of the Niagara river.
The 19-year-old St. Catharines man has not been located and his identity is not being released.
Considerable effort was put forth searching the area by the Niagara Regional Police Marine Unit, Niagara Parks Police High Angle River Team, Niagara Falls Fire Department, the Canadian Coast Guard, the Erie Country Sheriff’s Office – Air One, the US Coast Guard and the Canadian Forces Base Trenton Search and Rescue Helicopter.

The circumstances remain under investigation by detectives but foul play is not suspected.
The search will resume today by the Niagara Regional Police Marine Unit and the Niagara Parks Police with the assistance of Niagara Helicopters.
