Search for good samaritans after fiery wreck on the QEW

A fiery crash yesterday afternoon on the QEW near the Burlington skyway ended without tragedy.

The father who was rescued from this fiery crash with his eight month-old daughter in the back seat is reaching out on social media to thank staff at Joseph Brant Hospital, emergency workers, and the anonymous bystanders who leapt into action after his car was hit by a transport truck and spun out of control.

On Facebook, TJ Lindley wrote:

“I want to thank everyone for the kind words and messages!! I want to thank all the people that ran over and saved us!!! I would like everyone’s help finding all those people!!!”

Jeff Varcoe was on his way to his Hamilton property management office when he saw the crash start in the opposite direction of traffic.

“I saw the car slide along the guard rail, I veered into the middle lane expecting it to come into my lane but it hit the lamp standard and stopped, and fire started coming out of it.”

He shot video minutes later, after watching some bystanders rescue a man and his toddler from the wreckage.

“They kicked in the sunroof and pulled him out through it. Then as he’s being pulled out he starts screaming ‘my baby my baby’, then they kicked in the back window and pulled out the baby, within seconds.”

This morning a man called into Toronto radio show Z 103-5 claiming to be one of the rescuers:

“The car was mangled, there was no way in. It was already catching fire. By the time we got to the back window, it was a tight squeeze, trying to get child unbuckled.”

The good samaratin said the child was calm, and that helped him stay calm.

“It was a proud moment for humanity to see everyone respond the way they did. That’s the true story, those guys are heroes.”

Varcoe says those heros deserve recognition.

On Facebook, TJ Lindley finished his post with this:

“Life is short and can change in an instant!!! Tell everyone you love that you love them and do everything you want to do!!!!”

So far none of the good samaratins have come forward for recognition. OPP said yesterday the crash was caused when the family car was clipped by a transport truck.

So far no charges have been laid.
