CHCH News anchor Matt Ingram speaks with Jane Boulden, a professor at the Royal Military College of Canada, on Prime Minister Mark Carney’s pledge to meet the NATO 2 per cent spending target by March.

Boulden spoke about how ambitious Carney’s plan appears, and if she thinks the federal government can quickly turn this money into new troops and equipment.

Ingram asks if Boulden sees any key challenges the government may face in building up the Canadian military.

They also talk about how the federal government can attract more recruits, after a Canadian military report was reportedly leaked last month, that many new recruits quickly leave the service.

Boulden also spoke about Carney’s recent decision to join the ReArm Europe Initiative – officially named “Readiness 2030” – and if it will help or hurt Canada’s efforts to build up its military.
