Young scientists and engineers faced off in the 4th annual First LEGO League Hamilton Regional Qualifier today.

Eighteen elementary school teams, most from the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board, built LEGO robots to compete in different challenges.

The robot had 2.5 minutes to complete its mission.

There was also a presentation aspect to the tournament.  Teams had to identify a problem involving space exploration, designing a solution, and share their results before a panel of judges.

The top three teams will advance to the provincial tournament in Waterloo.
