Report on cash handling policy in Hamilton
Hamilton city councillors are looking at ways to tighten the cash handling policy for city workers.
The report comes after city worker Mike Hawrylyshyn was fired earlier this year for allegedly siphoning off more than $1 million in fees collected by the city’s finance department over a nine-year period.
In the report, it’s recommended that city duties are divided up so that no employee collects cash and also deposits cash receipts, and that all cash payments be entered immediately, with electronic or manual receipts provided to customers in every case.
