Rebuilding Red Hill Creek

Years of heavy storms are forcing the city of Hamilton to rebuild a part of the Red Hill Creek. It’s started to erode and could force the closure of a public golf course.
The Red Hill Creek runs through King’s Forest Golf Course in the east end of Hamilton. During heavy rain storms, the creek carries pieces of the escarpment with it. Those pieces have chipped away at the creek’s banks and have begun the erode several bridge foundations on the golf course.
The city will now have to pay almost half a million dollars to replace the bridges, fix the banks, remove boulders and widen part of the creek. The city spent $7 million to reroute the creek’s original path to make way for the Red Hill Valley Parkway which opened in 2007.
