Ready to roll for March break
Plans are made, tickets are booked – and if you’re heading away this march break you’ll want to make sure you pack your patience.
This is one of the busiest travel times of the year, with today and tomorrow expected to be the two busiest days of the March break travel season.
Pearson airport officials say they’re expecting about 103,000 travelers today; and tomorrow will be even busier with about 108,000 people boarding flights. On a normal day you’d see about 90-thousand people passing through.
Of course it is high anxiety time for people who’ve booked flights with Air Canada. The airline is facing a possible strike that could ground its planes. Its 8,600 machinists, cargo agents and baggage handlers are set to walk if they don’t get a new deal by midnight Monday. Labour minister Lisa Raitt has intervened in other disputes at the airline.
If you’re not boarding a plane this march break, you may be hitting the road for a road trip. CAA has released a list of the top driving destinations. The top spot is Orlando, followed by Myrtle Beach, New York City, and Pinehurst, North Carolina.
If you are heading south remember to factor in wait times at the border. You can check for those online: U.S. Customs and Border Protection posts updates on its website at least once an hour; and the Canada Border Services Agency tweets updates as well. And don’t forget your passport: you’ll need it to cross the border.
