Queen’s Park offers condolences to Flaherty family

Today’s question period at Queen’s Park began with politicians offering their condolences to MPP Christine Elliott and her family after former finance minister Jim Flaherty’s sudden death.

“It moves us all to see members wearing green in support of Jim,” said PC leader Tim Hudak. “Our first thoughts and hearts of this assembly go with the member of Whitby-Oshawa, Christine Elliot and their sons, Galen and Jon, Quinn.”

“On behalf of the Liberal caucus, I too want to express my deepest condolences to the Flaherty family, particularly our colleague from Whitby-Oshawa and join with the thousands of Canadians that we saw over the weekend thanking Mr. Flaherty and his family for his many, many years of public service,” said John Milloy, the government house leader.

NDP leader Andrea Horwath also offered her condolences to Flaherty’s family. She extended condolences to the tories too, saying, “I’m sure they are going through a difficult time.”

A state funeral will be held for Flaherty on Wednesday in Toronto. The former finance minster died suddenly at his home in Ottawa last week at the age of 64.
