VIDEO: It’s official — Hamilton is getting a professional women’s hockey team. The league is expected to provide more details about its newest expansion team coming to the city at around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

The announcement is expected to be at Hamilton’s newly renovated TD Coliseum, where the team is set to play during the 2026-2027 season.

We also know that the new team is going to be practicing at the Morgan Firestone arena in Ancaster, the same arena that the Ancaster Avalanche junior hockey team plays at.

PWHL Hamilton merch can be purchased through their website now.

All the apparel is decked out in the team’s signature colours: gold, maroon and cream.

The league says gold pays homage to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the old Hamilton Tigers of the NHL and maroon represents the colour of aged steel.

Excitement for the new team is already building with the Instagram account racking up over 10,000 followers within the last 24 hours.

The league says Hamilton has felt like home since day one, starting with the takeover game that saw over 16,000 fans in the stands.

More than 70 per cent of them were first time PWHL ticket buyers!

“It’s just been blowing me away, the support that the PWHL has had – the cities across North America that want expansion teams,” says Toronto Sceptres defender Renata Fast.

“To know that I’m from Burlington, and I didn’t have any of this around me when I was young and now to think that people in the GTA have a team in Toronto and Hamilton to cheer for is really exciting. That’s just going to help grow our game as well.”

The team’s logo and name are set to be announced at a later date. For now the team is expected to play as just “PWHL Hamilton” and with the official team colours.
