Prime Minister Mark Carney will be in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. Friday to attend a vigil three days after nine people died in a mass shooting.
Carney, who invited other federal party leaders to join him at the vigil, was invited by the town’s Mayor Darryl Krakowka.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say the shooter, an 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar, killed herself after carrying out the mass shooting.
Police say she had a history of mental illness and have not yet explained how she accessed the long gun and handgun recovered from the school.
More than 25 other people were also injured in the shooting.
Carney and the other party leaders delivered statements in the House of Commons Wednesday, pledging unity and their full support for the town and the families of the victims.
The vigil will be held outside the Tumbler Ridge Town Hall at 6 p.m. Pacific Standard Time — 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
