The temperature isn’t the only thing continuing to fall. Drivers across Ontario are gladly stepping outside and braving the freezing temperatures to take advantage of the ever-declining gas prices.
The cold is a little more bearable when the gas you are pumping is only 81.6 cents a litre.
Nick Bontis, DeGroote School of Business: “79.9 cents today at Costco in Ancaster. That’s cheap. It was a buck-26 this time last year.”
79.9 cents per litre? Sounds too good to be true. But feast your eyes at this gas station at the Costco in Ancaster.
Bontis continues: “If you got an opportunity to fill gas, do that right now.”
Nick Bontis doesn’t have to say it twice. There was as much of a consistent flow of drivers at the gas station as there was fuel itself. Prices are this low as OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) isn’t slowing supply. And its allowing drivers across the continent to revel in a cheaper fill-up.
“I’m loving it.”
“It’s wonderful. It’s like getting a raise at work.”
“I’m less stressed about pulling up to the pump.”
Even those who have finer taste in fuel are saving.
“Oh I love it because I use premium in this vehicle so it’s nice that it’s under a dollar”
After seemingly overpaying for gas, drivers are proud to announce just how much they’ve saved so far.
“We’re saving about $400 to 500 per month with two vehicles.”
“We’re saving about 300-400 bucks a month.”
“It would probably cost me about $50 and now it costs $32.”
And while people are being practical with their savings.
“Paying off my line of credit”
“Getting more gas.”
“It usually goes to groceries.”
Others are taking the opportunity to splurge.
“Just bought some chocolates for the wife”
“Paying for stuff for the kids.”
“I’m going to Florida in April.”
