Powder found at Halton headquarters

Some tense moments Monday in Oakville where an investigation is underway at the Halton regional headquarters.

HAZMAT teams are on the scene as well as the bomb squad after reports of a suspicious package.

About 3 o’clock this afternoon, officials got a call about a suspicious package inside the building.

A woman working inside the building opened up an envelope and came into contact with a suspicious white powder.

Oakville first responders quickly attended the scene including paramedics, a HAZMAT truck and the bomb squad.

Within a hour, things de-escalated very quickly. While there was a decontamination tent set up, no one went through and it was taken down. No one was evacuated from the building.

In speaking with the platoon chief, he said all tests for the white substance came out negative. The woman was allowed to go home and there is no longer a threat to public safety.
