A portion of Thunder Bay Road in the Town of Fort Erie was closed April 21, due to unsafe conditions from an ongoing upgrade project, which will restrict traffic until September.
The closed portion of the road is within between Burleigh Road South and Prospect Point Road South.
The Thunder Bay Road upgrade project has been in the works for years, with the design of the rework finalized in December.
Construction began April 13, with detours set in place for local traffic, while maintaining emergency access until the planned reopening.
The Town of Erie posted on social media that the road was closed starting April 21 until at least August 31, and that residents should use alternate routes whenever possible.
Town staff say the timing of the project was driven by the West Wind Shores development east of Burleigh Road South.
