The King’s Baton Relay to celebrate the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland is currently on its global tour.
The relay marks the countdown to the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which includes visiting only three Canadian cities between May 2 to May 7, one of which is Burlington on May 6.
The City of Burlington will welcome the relay with a public waterfront ceremony at Spencer Smith Park Pavilion from 11 a.m. to noon.
The ceremony will feature The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada Pipes and Drums, followed by remarks explaining the relay and the city’s connection to the Commonwealth Games movement.
The relay will then move onto Toronto the next day.
CHCH News spoke with Lou Frapporti, the local relay event organizer, as well as Burlington mayor Marianne Meed Ward.
