If there is a fall election, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberals appear to be in pretty good shape.

According to a new Leger poll, more than a third of decided voters say they will stick with the status quo.

Trudeau has prorogued Parliament until Sept. 23, when he intends to introduce a throne speech laying out a post-pandemic recovery plan for the country.

That throne speech will be put to a confidence vote, which could trigger an election.

The poll finds 38 per cent of decided voters said they’d support Trudeau’s Liberals, compared to 30 per cent for the Conservatives, 18 per cent for the NDP and six per cent for the Greens.

Respondents rated Trudeau as the most decisive, intelligent, caring and charismatic leader on
offer.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh coming in a relatively close second.

The poll was completed before the Conservative Party picked its new leader.

Asked if they’d be more or less likely to vote Conservative if O’Toole was at the helm, more than half said they didn’t know.

Canadians will get a chance to learn more about O’Toole on Tuesday.

He will speak to the media at 11 a.m.
