Police identify stolen vehicle and arrest wanted Grimsby man

The seizure of a stolen vehicle in Grimsby on Monday led police to arrest a wanted 42-year-old man and uncover $3,000 worth of illicit drugs.

Niagara police officers were patrolling in the area of Viking Court and Olive Street on Monday around 1:40 p.m. when they noticed a vehicle known to be stolen from Toronto.

After stopping the suspect vehicle, police realized the driver had a warrant out for his arrest and he was subsequently taken into custody.

Officers seized $660 in Canadian cash as well as cocaine estimated at a total street value of $3,400.

Simon Bijl, 42, of Grimsby was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of cocaine
