Hamilton police say they’re trying to narrow down the exact day a shooting occurred after discovering a bullet casing near Gage Park.

The discovery of a spent shell casing on Tuesday has confirmed to police that a shooting occurred near Main Street East and Gage Avenue South, the question is — when?

In a press release late Tuesday night, Hamilton police said they were alerted to a shooting that had taken place sometime between April 19 and April 23 but did not elaborate on the details surrounding the incident.

On Wednesday morning, however, they clarified that it was the leftover evidence from a bullet that they were investigating.

There have been no reported injuries at this time, and authorities are asking residents in the area to check their security cameras for unusual or suspicious activity from that time.

The same goes for drivers passing through the area who may have dashcam footage.

The force said Tuesday that it is aware that any shooting incident can instill fear and concern within the community and that it takes all reports involving firearms seriously.

Anyone with information is asked by authorities to contact police by calling 905-546-4883.
