Police charge Burlington man after seizing over 70K illegal cigarettes

Halton police have charged a Burlington man after an investigation into drug trafficking led to the seizure of over 70,000 illegal cigarettes.

Officers say the investigation began in February after a suspect allegedly shipped a package containing cocaine through Canada Post.

As part of the investigation, detectives identified 42-year-old Trevor Herdman and arrested him last Monday.

Following several search warrants at Herdman’s home in Burlington, investigators seized:

  • 13 grams of cocaine;
  • evidence related to shipping through Canada Post;
  • a crossbow;
  • a Dodge puck-up truck which was determined to be stolen from Burlington;
  • fake Ontario license plates and;
  • around 70,000 illegal cigarettes.

Police have charged Herdman with several offences including possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, tampering with a VIN, and possessing a crossbow contrary to a prohibition order.

Herdman was held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.

Officers say Herdman was on federal statutory release for drug trafficking and stolen property related offences at the time of this arrest.
