Brantford police arrest two people on drug trafficking, theft charges

Brantford police have arrested two people on drug trafficking and theft charges after they were seen attempting to boost a vehicle that had been reported stolen in a neighbouring jurisdiction.

Officers say at around 12:30 a.m. Monday morning, while conducting patrol near a motel on Colborne Street, the two people and the vehicle were noticed in a nearby parking lot.

Detectives say they searched one of the people and found 10.5 grams of suspected cocaine and 17.5 grams of suspected fentanyl.

As a result, police charged a 26-year-old man with:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000;
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine;
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl;
  • Two counts of breaching probation;

Investigators say the man was bound by two separate probation orders at the time of the arrest.

Authorities also charged 39-year-old woman from Brantford with:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000.

Brantford police have held the man in custody ahead of his bail hearing and the woman was released with a court date.
